D'uh

Today in class, my students berated me for not knowing the name of He-Man's orange and green tiger. "D'uh!" they said. "It's CRINGER! And then when he gets the Power of Castle Grayskull, he turns into BATTLE CAT!" I felt very old, very out of the loop.

For those of you who also didn't know the name of He-Man's orange and green tiger (and all other He-Man related FAQ), please enlighten yourself here.

I was NOT berating! I was only trying to show concern for someone's lack of very important, not to mention relevant knowledge. Ok, so I may have been a bit dissapointed, and I may feel a little uneasy being taught by someone who might not have all of her He-Man facts straight, but I was only trying to rectify the situation. I meant well, that I promise you.

I know, Jason! But aren't you glad I'm studying now? I'm learning ALL the He-Man facts!

He-Man? Never heard of him!!! Is he in the X-Men? Or maybe he's one of the Fantastic Four? :) ha ha ha ha ha. (but seriously, never heard of him.)

Carolyn: It's a cartoon, but you probably know the theme music. You know that song, from back in our day, "You Got the Power"? By Snap? And how it starts, about Castle Grayskull? That's sampled from He-Man.

Yes Megan, I am very glad that you are studying. I do have He-Man episodes on DVD you know, and I may be willing to let you borrow them as long as it's not for an extended period of time. They are quite wonderful to watch, it makes you miss the days when cartoons had blatant messages behind them. Remember the live action He-Man movie from the 80s? God, it was horrible.

"You aren't a bar-tender!"

Also, I prefer Gem and the Holograms. C'mon, it was from the 80's and it just happened to be about pop-y musicians projecting holographic images to hide their true selves. The only thing it's missing is cocaine.

Lot's of cocaine.

Jason, that movie was called Masters of the Universe and starred the amazing Dolph Lundgren. The 80's idol himself. It did not, however, have battlecat/cringer. Which was incredibly disappointing. Megan, I highly recommend this movie. Its a great way to dip back into He-Man without feeling like you're watching a cartoon. And if you can overlook the terrible dialog, bad character development, and cheesy 80's effects, I'd dare to say this is an entertaining film.

Dustin: My favorite Eighties movie is Satisfaction (girl-rock summer road flick, the best of all genres). The girl who plays Billie (drug-addicted blonde guitar player) is the VOICE of Gem! Truly outrageous! Truly-truly-truly outrageous!
